A familiar Earl Grey ritual made hands-on: brisk black tea, fragrant bergamot, culinary lavender, and orange peel invite you to adjust the floral and citrus balance cup by cup.

STARTER FORMULA

For one 8 fl oz cup
1 tsp Earl Grey black tea
¼ tsp culinary lavender
¼ tsp orange peel

 

PREPARATION

  1. Measure the tea and botanicals into a roomy infuser.

  2. Add 8 fl oz water at about 200°F.

  3. Cover and steep for 4–5 minutes.

  4. Strain. Notice the aroma, floral balance, body, and finish before adjusting your next cup.

MAKE IT YOUR OWN
Softer: reduce the lavender. Brighter: add a pinch of orange peel. Rounder: add milk or honey after steeping.
